Serissa grows new roots very easily. Just mounding up the soil will cause new roots to grow in a few months if that's what you want. Not quite as easy with all species but Serissa will do it without resorting to cuts, etc.
I agree with Leo though. Layering up there will actually remove a small bend from the trunk. What do you hope to achieve with this other than practice?
