Pines seem ok with the new heat mat.
Upgrading the grow room. This heat mat works very good.Constant 77-79 degrees.Commercial grade w/thermostat.
Have a new light arriving next week.Same as this one,but three of them wired together ( starting a bunch of Zelkova).Should do the job nicely!
Pines are a month old:cool: Looks like mature needles are getting ready to pop.

The new grow light

The new grow light arrived today!
Looks really nice.It is what I had times three for a total of 864 diodes....really bright:cool:
Now more room for future plans.
Pines are looking good at six weeks.Lots of shoots and mature needles popping out of their sheath.I would say the light is adequate lol.

It is very nice set up. I can see you want to compete with the people are growing black pine in tropical areas, don’t you? ?
Please update it.
Thanks

Thanks!
That’s funny....will be interesting to see how they look at Autumn 2019.
When these go outside in Spring I will probably leave them in the Rootpouch and just set into larger pot of good mix ,so they will not dry out.
Roots do not grow out of the pouches.....they prune themselves inside!
I will certainly update this thread!

Raised the grow light

I did some research on light intensity for my particular grow light.
I raised it a bit to provide a little less intensity to more of a vegetative growth range. It is rated as a primary veg growth light with a lot of blue.
I would like to see these keep elongating and not set a terminal bud ,so they just keep putting out mature needles and the shoot keeps growing when I put them outside in Spring. We’ll see if this works.
At ten weeks, lots of mature needles popping out.
A couple have almost ridiculous branching.Maybe a product of the high intensity I was giving them at first.
Some are quite small, but with lots of mature needles.
Working on soil for these.Probably50/50 3/8” perlite and 3/8” orchid bark.
With extra drainage pots. They are not getting overwatered now and I want to continue this.

your seedlings look remarkably good. Well done.
Thanks! I am impressed too actually.
Lots of mature needles. Will be interesting to see how they react to the transition outside and if they wait to set a terminal bud in Fall or what.
I just took this photo.....

cmeg,
What is the significance of the coco mat?
Just so I could use fast draining soil without water evaporating away while I work.A top dressing is essential for me.
I now prefer shredded spahgnum though.I run it shrough a leaf shredder and has a nice bonding consistancy.Does a great job

Getting bigger

These are doing well.Getting a nice head start.
I bet the roots are getting dense in the pouches. They are getting pruned by entangling in the fabric.A couple pouches must be looser weaved ,as the roots are able to break through.

Are there any JBP varieties that would do well on the Gulf Coast (zone 8b)?
