Curious if any has any idea what those light coloured stripes on the trunk are?
I noticed the striping on mine too, and some of the nude areas you pointed out. Not sure what causes either. I assumed the striping was just the trunk caliper increasing and shedding???

Growth seems to have stopped now or is residual. All 4 pushed new growth (candles) twice this year. both sets of growth produced lots of buds. One of them, pushed a couple of leaves in the middle of new shoots (from the second flush). Not sure if I can consider this as a third flush.

I thinned some the shoots to minimize shading and inverse taper.

I was not planning to repot them now, since I repot them earlier this year but I just did the 4. They were really pushing out of the terra-cotta pots making hard to water. Since I never get freezing temperature around here I assumed, and hope, they should be ok. While at it, I found lots of thick roots going circles on the bottom of the pot (the reason why they were pushing up), and lots of finer roots towards the surface. I cut off all the thick ones and left most of the fine ones. Let's see what happens.

Seems like my little JBP can be estimated at the same age. Although I’m not participating in this contest, I think it would be smartish of me to follow all these threads

Pines seem to be fine after reporting and I already see needles starting to poke out of candles. There’s also lots of backbuds. I suppose that’s the result of me cutting back some branches at whorls in winter

Had to repot again this year. I didn’t plan to, but 3 out of the 4 were pushing up the pot. So I potted them into pond baskets instead in January. Cut most of the encircling roots. I may have sacrificed some growth but such is life. As if today I can already see new needles popping from candles. Trunk base is about the width of my thumb.
Interestingly, there’s new mycorrhiza already starting to grow on the outside of the pot. I assume it’s also on the inside. Late autumn I also cut some of the leaders and reduce some needles to reduce manage their strength. Not sure I should worry about that yet but I thought it wouldn’t hurt much either.

I’m getting a second flush in one of the apical buds in one of my pines. This years buds are swelling on the others, so I should get a second flush there too. 2520C593-AB46-40F0-B5F0-6C1240F11584.jpeg
