Before a light summer trim. Needs better wiring, what else is new?!

Not much of a difference visually after. Hmmm.

Turn the entire right hand side into deadwood or nah? From that awfull jin to the ground.. I'm considering it. This trunk is unbendable and boring. Could splitting it work?

Can't air layer this one.
what juniper its this one

Looks really nice almost like Itoigawa, Peter chan used a lot of blaauw junipers specially in the old days when Itoigawa or kishu where very rare in Europe, in his books are some very good blaauws

After inoculating another pine succesfully, I decided to make an inoculation station. Catching the good fungi on some sticks, then replanting the sticks in a pot with less mycelium.
I should have boiled the sticks first though, so that they'd be less hydrophobic. But this should work too, although it'll take longer.

@Arnold thanks for the tip! I've seen some of Chan's blaauw junipers and they get a winter glow even though his winters are warmer than ours. This makes me wonder if he really has the blaauw, because on of the blaauw's defining traits is that it stays blue/green throughout the winter.
I'll see if I can get some of his books. Do you have any recommendations?

Awesome. Do you have an organic component in your substrate?
None! Apart from some fertilizer pellets.
I have one pine with the original fungal strain, transferred it succesfully, now I have a couple more.

Clay pots are a huge factor that seem to benefit. Wood works too.
No more needlecast and a good health. A bit too vigorous sometimes, but that's a goof thing.

That is awesome. I can't wait to try this out!

Scion took!

This one was done last year, nearly no visible scarring.

These seem to have taken too. But the connection was a bit weak, so some have been reenforced with zip ties. From now on forward I'll be using those because they are easier to apply than wire or grafting tape. I can always add a layer of tape later, but to keep the flap in place, zip ties seem to be the easiest choice. Also easier to recognize.

After three years in a wooden box, time for clay feet. The entire trunk was a sacrifice branch. Rebuilding this one from one branch is going to be fun!

Same for this snake, some new shoes. It was too light of a color, indicating wet feet. Turns out they were indeed soaked. Should be better now. Inoculated with some good fungi as well.

Tried a little cleft graft on this one that didn't take. But I really didn't put much effort into it. It has one unbalanced side where there are a couple skinny branches that I'm trying to let bud back.
Pads are coming along OK, because I actually spent some effort wiring it.
Not sure if needle plucking would be appropriate. It's one of my favorites.

All three were collected three years ago. Local scots pines.

Emergency flower bud! Upper right hand side.

As you might have guessed, deciduous aren't my strongest point.

Who needs pots? Who needs those meshes to keep the soil together?
Not me.

Anyone interested in receiving live samples of this fungus in spring? I can send pieces of wood inoculated with this fungus throughout Europe. Just jam those in the soil after a repot. Can be kept in the fridge for 3 months.

My first scots pine got a lil trim and some rewiring done. Still a long way to go! But it's a little better than before.
My wiring is advancing too. I think I used a meter less than last year.
Left on a lot of foliage because it was a little underwatered last season, and thus flushed out late.

I envy you!! I wish I could find Blauuws so easy and cheap here!! nice styling
Thanks!
How hard is it to ship plants to the islas?
Because I can always keep you in mind. If I find more for these kind of prices, I can ship you a couple.
A 10kg package to the canary isles isn't all that expensive from here.
