Little summer cleanup and cutback

Nice day here, little early for repot but gotta do what ya gotta do when you got time... so I pulled one of these guys out of its flat after two seasons of growth. This one was in the napa de as it's soil, roots look fairly good although this tree had the smallest amount of top growth of the 3

I had this bucket of seedlings so I figured why not try threading a few root grafts. You experienced guys make it look so easy, lol

I had to start with taking one large root back a little

Ended up placing 3 grafts, these 2 and one that'll be in the back

Now, to see if it lives... I'll get to the other 2 maybe end of feb

Repotted the other two today, roots are looking great. Both of these went back in andersson flats

I didn't pre chop any, chop and collect all in one go

Rough year for these last season. I think between my overhead watering and a rather rainy summer they weren't happy. The really slanting one didn't wake up this spring, the slightly slanting one woke up but it's weak growth got ate by an inch worm and did it in. The one I had placed in a bonsai pot is alive and doing well. None of my thread grafts lived. I decided to take the leader back today. Hoping for some buds to pop near the cut to train up. Fingers crossed!
