This is my entry into the competition. I’m thinking I would like to go a cascade or semi-cascade route.276914

Just curious, where did you find an azalea in Nebraska in January?

Possibly. This will be my first time styling a plant from nursery stock. I have a copy of principles of bonsai design coming in the mail tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to this spring!

13F98ED0-914A-45EF-AAF8-2B6153FA0A98.jpegWell guys, my drunken stupidity got the best of me yesterday. Tripped and fell, accidentally caught myself on my azalea... broke off a piece of the tree and split the plastic pot it was in. Drunk me then proceeded to repot the poor lil fella. He has since been moved to a new location where he will hopefully be safe from falling idiots.

I would go ahead and prune back some of the branches too. Leave a couple with flower buds just to enjoy but I'd prune it back now too. In part to bring the amount of foliage down to match the root reduction. Not mandatory, just a suggestion. If the leaves don't wilt much, then not necessary at all.

Have you given it a trim? Any updates?

My how time flies when you are having fun. Things have been crazy out at the golf course with this drought going on that I just recently was able to do any trimming on my entry.

Sorry to hear that. If you wish to continue in the contest you are more than welcome to start off with a new plant. Just be sure you post your starting plant before you start any work to it and post progress pics.

Spring is here and your azalea could be blooming (depending on your location) or starting to leaf out with this season’s flush……it’s time for updates!

I would also like to add at this time we have 3 prizes to award. Many thanks to @Forsoothe! and @Deep Sea Diver for donating. I am also donating a prize as well.

If you are no longer interested in continuing in the Azalea Contest, please let me know so we can close your thread, thanks.
