Im a novice but based on teaching and a bit of experience for deciduous in my sarf London suntrap I start with 70/30 akadama/pumice and adjust from there. Developing stuff, and especially as containers are likely to be larger for a couple of years eg training pots, will be less crucial, you could def go cheaper and also more free draining. I bought some collected bits before from HH and arrived in a bit of a mash up of substrates but generally really large grains, due to the container size still takes a couple of days to fully dry out.
