This is, to me, one of the most evocative and inspirational deciduous trees I've seen on this site. Bobby, you have a real gift with deciduous material, and this is one of your best I think.

Those are some kinds words mate, thank you, although i think this one has some way to go yet, i appreciate your words and im glad the tree touched you in this way. this is actually only one of a few of mine that are in a proper pot.

Oh, I know it has lots of development and refinement to go, but you've already created a powerful image. I like how you always begin with "real" trees that inspire you.

Hi mate, nope its never flowered, its been in a development phase since ive had it though, quite a bit of structural work. there's a great article on kaizen about making them flower, you probably read it. im no expert on flowering trees tbh. it had white flowers for the previous owner
Found it! That’s helpful.

Thanks

Hi folks
some improvement in the structure of this tree, still has a lot of filling out to do though but getting there....

i thought about standing it back up, any thoughts? that new branch on the left was built from scratch, when it was upright before that side was a little bare, but not so much now, there's better balance there

im not sold on it going upright again, will see in the future

this was one of the first to leaf out on my balcony, growth has been rampant....
all the wire had to be removed like over a week ago

ill leave it be and shear it back later in the season, going to be trying this method on a few trees this season

the pic with blue background is from may, it was allowed to extend until shoots were a foot or more

then was cut back so hard i was embarassed to take a pic😂

but this is it today, shoots half a foot long, but i think ill leave it alone until after the spring push next season before shearing it back

I've managed to never see this tree of yours Bobby... This is really cool.
Its nebari and bark are similar to one of the chinese elms I got from you 2 years ago, but this is better. The slanting is very cool, the whole pot goes well with the tree too.
Whole image looks really great.
