I've seen on this forum and a few others, discussion on the product known as Haydite. I found some last year after most of the potting season was already over and tried it with more than satisfactory results.
So, as we move toward the repotting season I have begun the search again.
You can find a number of sources online. Some pretty pricey too. Hollow Creek sells it for $30.00 for a 5 gallon bag.
Today though I hit the jackpot. I found Haydite in bulk at a local supplier of rocks, gravel, and sand for landscaping uses. I brought home 100 lbs. of it for a whopping $7.00!
So if your in the market make sure you check out those types of businesses in your area.
For those of you that may not be aware, Haydite is high fired shale. Check out the link and the attached photo of the stuff I picked up today.
