welcome!
It may seem a little overwhelming at trying to absorb everything at first.
I think the hobby can easily be divided into two focuses,
The horticulture and the artistry. I was drawn in to the latter but have found over the years the green thumb part of it more important. It doesn't count if you make a beautiful tree that dies.
as you progress, you'll discover there are many ways to accomplish the same purpose, so be like a sponge and absorb them all but retain those that seem to make sense to you. Time will be a good teacher thru trial and error.
While i love my bonsai club, meeting ten times a year was NOT enough for me, as i wanted to immerse myself into the hobby. So I retained bonsai teachers, Volunteered at the a public Bonsai collection, and helped a friend with a retail operation and that seemed to help me a lot to continue learning. My bonsai library has literally thousands of books and magazines.
I love this hobby. Hope you will too! best wishes
