Hello all, I'm new to the forums and pretty new to bonsai. My partner and I live in a south facing condo in Denver with a small balcony.

I have a small schefflera that I've had for a little over a year and a half now. Last May I moved it from its original pot to a tray resting over a rock. At that time I did a partial defoliation. I just uncovered the roots and reassessed, repositioning some and removing some cordage and moss that I had used to ease the transition. I also nearly fully defoliated the plant since it is looking quite health.

It and our orchids are currently enjoying the comforts of some grow-lights, a humidifier and the Scheff is sitting on a humidity tray of its own.

My partner has a golden gate ficus that he got at a bonsai fair this past summer. It spent most of the summer on the balcony, but is now inside for the winter.

I'm trying some starts with the major trimmings I made from the scheff and a couple of small trimmings I made from the ficus (it had one limb getting a little long and disrupting the foliage shape)

Anyway, that's my story. I've been enjoying reading threads and getting a lot of food for thought here.

Welcome Philart, you know if you say that name quick enough....

The Scheff and the ficus will both root easily and soon you will have more to play with. Of course they will only make you want to have more and more Bonsai. Better than shooting H, but still an addiction. :D

Welcome to not only the most popular bonsai forum in the U.S.A but also the best. Enjoy.

Ed, you're right on the propagation. I'm afraid I'll end up with more plants than I can handle in our small space. However, I'm hoping to get a few strong candidates started this winter so they're ready to really grow once they can go out on the balcony in spring. I just planted some pomegranate seeds this afternoon to see if I'll have on other option.

Philart, you can also use them for grafts on branches or for roots if you need it.
