Good Morning To All!!
My name is Barney Barnhardt from North Carolina. I live in the mid portion of what we call the Piedmont section of the state. I'm roughly 30 minutes north of Charlotte and, again roughly, 30 minutes south of Greensboro just a bit off I85. So that should put me in Zone 7.
I've had an on again, off again attraction to bonsai for a few years. At one point, I made a foray into formally doing something about it, but job, and budget, constraints took precedence. But before that happened, I was fortunate enough to meet, talk with, and take a class from Mr. Randy Clark at the Bonsai Learning Center just north of Charlotte proper. That was before his retirement to, I'm told, Florida. Trust me when I say that place was bonsai heaven. For those of you that stopped in you know what I mean. So retirement a few years ago has now given me more time to devote to such pursuits and I've made the leap back into it and am pretty much starting over. I've bought, from the dreaded big box stores, a small Ilex Crenata / Soft Touch Holly, which just happened to have a decent looking trunk for such a young, small tree. I have high hopes for it. I'd bought 3 nice Procumbens Nana from a nursery in Concord, NC a few years ago and planted them in the ground to mature. I planted them around the edge of one of my wife's flower beds and she now likes my Procumbens and I think I may have a problem getting them back. But being the dutiful husband, who subscribes to the "happy wife/happy life" school of thought will probably end up leaving them and getting more.
But enough of my babble this morning. I found you guys quite by accident this morning while "Googling" some other bonsai related subjects and got myself registered. So for now I'll go and leave you with this. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands dirty with my trees again and conversing with all you fine folks. I've found, with other subjects, forums such as this are frequently "the way" to find out information and share learning experiences with like minded folks.
For now!! I'll be standing by and looking
