I ran into a "bonsai-sale" at a local plant centre yesterday and got this little Zelkova - just 16 cm (6.2") from soil to top leaf. They had several of them, but most of them had too brutally cut trunk shapes (cut for taper and "interesting" shapes I guess). This one I thought was quite ok, and it has a nice nebari too.

Its original soil was a very hard clay so I immediately repotted it in a cat litter mix.

I guess this tree qualifies as a Shohin? I see some definitions of Shohin and Mame but it is not clear to me if I should measure the size of a tree from the top leaf or from the apex, and to the soil or to the bottom of the root system?

Finally, this tree deserves a picture...
