As I understand it, light intensity increases exponentially as you get closer to the bulb, which makes sense if you think about the way the volume of a cone increases exponentially with height. If one plant is twice as far from the light as another, it will get a quarter of the amount of light. I think that's what Wires means by one light per plant. Keep each plant as close as practicable to a lamp. But if you have one of those big hood things that covers all the plants, then all of the plants can fit under one lamp. The bottom line is, if your plants aren't leggy, your light is probably sufficient (if not 100% optimized), and if the leaves are burning from the heat or light intensity, dial it back a notch. In other words, just pay attention to your plants, and they'll tell you.

Well, I'm not a big fan of titles to threads that say nothing about the content of a thread.
But in general 1200-2000 lumens is what I use per individual plant.

The topic starter didn't mention floor space, amount of plants, height or anything else. Without such info, we can't really say much.

I'm willing to put in more effort if the TS can do that too and specify what he wants, what he has and what the goal is; keeping them alive or getting them to thrive?

my goal is to get them to thrive. I have any where from 1ft to about 21/2 feet from the light but some of the plants are tall. Like my ficus is almost hitting the light but my acacia is about 6 inches from the light. I have several shelves 1 4ft shelf and 3 3ft shelves all are about 72 inches high and I have 3 to 4 shelves on each. But the distance from the light varies for each bonsai.

I added some aluminum foil above the lights as you can see some of them I think lose some light because of the wire shelves so hopefully adding the aluminum foil and another light per shelf will do? I want my trees to thrive and as you can see I have a narrow leaf ficus that just started growing more leaves hopefully these will stay for a while LOL!! Also I did not take pics of some of my shelves because they have orchids on them a totally different topic.

Hey also I am not a big fan of grow lights and I am only using a shop light that is 6500k. I do not believe there is a big difference unless you are growing corals. If anyone has any thoughts on this topic any input would be appreciated!!!

Ah. I was worried you had one light bulb in the room, rather than one fluorescent tube per shelf.
