This is a tree in a South Georgia Swampy area. I was out looking for Bald Cypress and ran across this. I have never notice this before. It has small leaves and produces red berries. Some that look like shrubs but others were 20 feet tall. Does anyone know what species this is and if so will it far well with collecting and chopping?

Thank you for any assistance you can give.

Bubba,

Can you describe some of the plants characteristics?

Unfortunately, its not real clear from the picture you posted.

What were the leaves like? Smooth and waxy maybe?
What was the bark like?
Where the berries opaque or were they kind of translucent?

If I were to venture a guess at this point I would say Ilex vomitoria.

Regards,
Paul
