So as title says, I'm looking for a tree for the bottom left area of my garden. Sorry think I have asked this somewhere before, but making a thread so I can find easily!

Parts of this area get boggy so I'm happy to look into drainage if needed? Clay soil, south west facing, gets some PM shade. Also needs to be safe for dogs and ideally fully grown not too much taller than the fence?

So quite specific needs 😂 I'm thinking a Japanese Maple, one of the smaller varieties?

Attached screenshots of a few I've seen and would love more ideas, either more small JMs or other suitable species 😊 I do have one already (barrel photo from last year) - think it's an acer atropurpureum. Needs moving from current spot as it gets too much sun there, but if it is that type it'd get too big in the ground. May move it (still in barrel) to that bottom left spot if planting one in the ground not an option.

Attached photos of the area from various times of year, including of the Winter boggyness!
Please do say if you think it's too boggy, if that's the case I'll go for a tree in barrel/large pot 😊

Just wanting something to brighten up that area, preferably something in the ground!

Does my suggestion NEED to be Acer?.. is that, preferably, where we are “trying to stay”?

Just need to know, before my mind “paints” any further. 🤓

Edit: I’m a nincompoop... i see it in your post now.

Don't worry - exactly the sort of thing I'd miss too 😂

A wall of Lavendar/Catmint...

Then a row of Forsythia...

Accented by Dwarf Euonymus Burning bush...

But that’s just in my mind... 🤣🤣

Forsythia or Dwarf burning bush would be my realistic suggestion.

But the trees YOU’VE shown look great, too!

🤓

That does sound lovely! You have good taste 😊 although euonymus would be a no go I think unfortunately since it's poisenous to dogs, just can't trust our pup! Possibly lavender too actually?
