I purchased my first Chinese elm and it’s arrived with these markings all over the trunk! Has anyone seen this before and can tell me what this is/what to do about it? I’m an absolute beginner so I’m just concerned something is wrong with my tree. Any advice is greatly appreciated

the brown lines are from oprevious wiring and will grow out over time
The whitish stuff is a fungus or lichen. Normal to have on trees outside.

I think leatherback is right.
It looks like some type of lichen forming.

Is the tree otherwise healthy?
Is it being kept indoors or outdoors?

Welcome to the Nut House, btw....its good to add your location to your profile so you can get advice based on your climate zone.
