help with design of maple formosana

Hello I need help with this Formosan maple , I'm from Argentina , we are in the spring, I want an opinion on bonsai style .
For me the trunk
has little taper . I also dried some branches in the middle, I had to cut it.
you do you think about?. could i make an air layering and shorten the trunk ?
can i make a chopping of the trunk?
It is the time to do it?

I would air layer just above the first branch. You could chop at this same point, instead. It is up to you.

I agree with the air layer, but I would keep the first branch. Layer just below it so the trunks diverge as close to the roots as possible.

I kind of like how it is now.
I'd be hesitant for a good year of feeding and see what happens.
