Hey y’all! So excited to be joining the mix for a contest.
I won a scrappy little azalea at a garden center auction recently. Looks like it will end up as a small broom potentially? I’ll see where it takes me this spring...

Nice, what cultivar is it?

Thank you for the responses! This is Perfecto Mundo Double Pink...We're having a fairly mild winter in Western NC but most of all I've had to protect potted plants from the downpours of rain. I guess I will put this one in the shed for extreme temps...do you think this is sufficient?

Just make sure you keep the roots from being to wet and out of the wind and you should be good. I believe @SouthernMaple is around your area.

I didn’t believe y’all that these would spring back so vigorously. Cut back to tiny stumps after spring flowers and now have some beautiful new growth. Will seek smaller pot and pursue my first shohin for this bad boy...

It budded back fairly low, you should have no issues creating any style you want.

Any updates?
Thanks for asking! Growth extending outward. Prob too early but I keep envisioning a cascade.

If you want a cascade you need to start wiring now to set that long branch.
Gotcha! I wired the longest one and broke it 🙄. Do you feel this is a sufficient angle for the next longest and best placed branch? Was fearful of breaking another but this is part of the learning process! Thanks for the tip.

Spring is here and your azalea could be blooming (depending on your location) or starting to leaf out with this season’s flush……it’s time for updates!

I would also like to add at this time we have 3 prizes to award. Many thanks to @Forsoothe! and @Deep Sea Diver for donating. I am also donating a prize as well.

If you are no longer interested in continuing in the Azalea Contest, please let me know so we can close your thread, thanks.

Future cascade budding out nicely. Will prune after first flush and get rid of some of these nubs but mainly let it grow this season and put more movement in cascading branches...

Lovely new growth after slow start. Did some minimal wiring to pull other cascade branch down.

btw: you may want to take a couple cuttings of your azalea to grow out. They may come in handy later on down the line!
cheers
