The early trees are starting to show green on the buds, so guess it's time to call winter over for the most part. I'll be able to keep them happy under the lights in the greenhouse until spring actually arrives. Earlier than normal, but expected with this strange non winter we had. First photo is of flowers on my Japanese Boxwood, have never had it flower before! Other tree is a project maple.

Yep... I've been dutifully keeping the temps in my cold room in the mid 30's all winter... 36 hours above 40 F and my Ume are instantly bud swelling. I slapped them down once the cold air returned... temp was 30 F in there this am and I'll still keep the temps in the mid 30's for as long as possible, but the genie is out of the bottle, at least for the ume, and 2-3 weeks earlier than last year. No light for them until the rest of the trees need it, which is probably in the next 3-4 weeks. Time to get my soil mix prepped :D .

We have another week in the 50's ahead of us here. My Nippon daisies are already sprouting new leaves. Not worried about the crapes, they're always late to wake up. It's only mid-February, so who knows what's coming. We had snow late April last year.
