Good afternoon everyone.
A quick hello from a brand newbie and pictures of my two purchases, made a couple of days ago.
The maple stands at about 14 inches and the Chinese elm is at 8 inches.
I have also bought two books.

Welcome Clive! Great looking trees to start with. You have come to the right place for information. There is plenty resources here to learn about your bonsai journey. What books did you buy? Look up bonsai soil that is one of the biggest differences in growing things in a pot and bonsai.

The books I bought are:
Little book of bonsai, by Malcolm and Kath Hughes.
Bonsai basics by Harry Harrington.

Thanks for the tip on soil.

Trees are from a local garden centre and cost £10 each.

They look like two good begginer books! Plenty of people here willing to share their bonsai experiences. Do not know if you have access to a bonsai club in your area. If you do, you might think about joining it if possible. Getting information from people in your general area about the when and why to do things to your trees is important. Enjoy your journey.
