Enjoying its favourite spot in the yard, a SW facing corner...lots of heat and sun.
It will be changed out in a week or so for the one on the bench after it’s cleaned up.

She's a sight!!🤤

Apex looks a little broad/too healthy? Plenty of options available if you where to choose that route. A few thoughtful cuts would go a long way, perhaps?

Striking piece of material look nice in your fire pit/nook display area. 🎅

These two had a good summer, some needle thinning/trimming and refinement wiring to do.

This large Literati was collected at the same time (fall 2016) as the others in this thread. So 5 years in....its had a few good seasons and sturdy enough to remove the supporting stick. First photo - this fall - stood well over 6’ (pot included). Second Photo - After needle thinning, removal of unwanted branches/branchlets and wiring, Not the exact same view.
It’s still young in development so encouraging back budding by opening up pads.

This one is coming along…. Out of the plastic pot into a Sam Miller round…, weird rootball on this one too...that’s one disadvantage about Yamadori and their sometimes unfavourable roots. Still needs the supports.

This one is the oldest project of (Yamadori) Shore Pine in the yard. It’s slowly coming along. Has some great back budding on many branches. As with many Yamadori trees, the root system is definitely not traditional, so I’ve tried to make it complementary to the environment where I collected it.

Some different angles of this “Welcome Tree”, a Shore Pine (Pinus Contorta, Contorta).
It stands about 60”.

Thank you, I have been very fortunate to learn from some of the best and most experienced Yamadori collectors up here on the PNW. Their trees have travelled south to well known professionals and private collections.

Finally some Sunshine after a prolonged cool very wet spring. The two Shore Pine (pinus contorta, contorta), shown here have significantly different characteristics, one collected on the Western side of Van. is., and the literati styled one was collected on the East side! They have both back budded nicely and are starting to take shape. Although the spring was cool and wet I didn’t have to do any extension pinching.

Stunning! Especially appreciate the meandering trunk line of the 60” “welcome tree.” A collection of trees that feel wonderfully effortless, even though we all know they’re not.

An update on these, after some needle thinning and maintenance.
