Repotted my Horse chestnut on Sunday into a wooden box. The tree comes from an older gentleman who stopped with bonsai and I had the chance to buy multiple Trees from him.
This tree comes with heavy roots and only good substrate at the edges of that blue container. At the center of the tree was black sandy soil with a bad smell, so it all had to go !
Cleaned up and with fresh substrate I hope the tree will grow well and I can start to designe a beautifull tree.

I really like this species because it is so tough.
Seems a bit top heavy, I would take more off

True, haven't done any structural work though, think to carve this summer when I'm sure the tree is stable in the box

Did grow well this season, I haven't done much to it, just let it settel in the growbox.

Next is to see what to do with the extended branches...

Post #1 last 2 pics have upper center section looks black in pic. Personally seems good to remove that stumpy looking area. However suspect personal instinct will serve you well😊.

Is that not a shadow?

Lotta mass up there anyway, lotta excess mass all around.

I really like this tree, I hope you realize enough health to chunk some of that mass out.

Neigh. Open fire Roasting.

Yes, it is a shadow , I've been looking at the stumps, there is new growth overall, so this winter I'll have a good look and start some carving to take out that 'lumpy' mass
