As I’ve mentioned in a few other threads recently, I am collecting a handful of specimens this Fall.. just to “test those waters” for myself... This thread is where I will document the successes/failures.. in hopes of producing my own personal Almanac of “do’s and don'ts” regarding this subject.

If Successes are realistically noted.. this documentation will span multiple seasons.

Now some of these trees will be featured in other threads.. and I will link accordingly.

First up... two Small Berberis Thunbergii (Japanese Barberry) Yes quite small for collection.. I said, “small” gosh! ;)

Next a Thuja.. collected NOW for NO other reason (initially) then to document the Autumn collection process/success of this particular species.. PICTURES ARE CRAPPY...gotta give ‘er a trim to balance out the damage caused during collection.

NP. Yours has much better trunk than mine though!
“Better” is relative. ;) I’m in the woods/wild alot.. so my “Holy hell that’s a nice tree!” Probability ratio is quite high. 🤣🤣

The younger bark is SOOO neat on the branches.

Hm.. I am in the woods a lot too. But then the bonsai woods in my garden. It is brimming with trees now. Which is why my "Ohw F. That is a great tree that needs to move to my garden"-probability is low..

In any case. Your trunk has more dynamics: https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/euonymus-multiple-flushes.44361/#post-757377

Hell yeah! I can’t wait until I have yardspace.. or “land” for actual planting.. YOUR “woods” sounds lovely!

I collected this Elm today, as my last (hopefully) consideration for The Native Tree/Pot contest... It cost me VERY little (more details in it’s own thread)

(((Update)))

Apparently there were some “making of shots” .. a few deleted scenes, as well as commentary by the Ulmus Americana her/himSELF!
🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️
The property site manager sent me pictures of myself digging this particular tree.. I’ll load the photos in it’s own thread.. just thought this was pretty neat!
