Those who are scheduled to do demos at conventions...I am aware that they are not only paid. Sometimes their lodging and meals are also picked up. Was curious about that aspect...surely one can't do out of pocket for such an event.

A friend of mine is on a board of her local club...and is having ones stay at her place. She is taking them on a tour as well during down time. They are not from around her location. I thought that cool to be able to do such a thing. But she says it's common to either have them stay in a members home or pay for lodging. That is for a private club. I would imagine a conference would follow the same guidelines.

Our club pays for meals, lodging, and transportation. Usually the visiting professional just stays with a club member, and it is always good form to take the visiting professional out for meals, and to tour exceptional gardens.

Thanks Brian...so no real expense goes on the overhead of one...say doing a demo...or TWO at say a convention. That's cool...that's what I was told as well. Just...came across something on a FB group that had me pondering something I read of the same poster elsewhere. I'm seeing things in a clearer eyes open sort of way. But...had me just questioning if I had my facts straight. Assumed the one knew what she was talking about. Which seems like she did. Just explains something @Anthony said...saleman technique...but more. When one starts to feel sorry for one...then learns that their story was sort of swallowed hook...line...and sinker.

On another note...I think it is great that one offering up the demo is sort of treated with high regard with picking up their expense. Very cool aspect I never thought of prior. I figured they were paid...didn't grasp that even travel was paid. What a great part of the bonsai world I didn't grasp. Was how well they treated one doing say...a demo.

What's even better is when they stay at your house, because then you get to wander your own garden with them and get their insight on your trees, as they sit on the benches. Nice perk.

I did ask my friend if she would benefit from their thoughts on her trees. That is a perk that is worth it's weight in GOLD!

I have invited and continue to invite "the big guns" to stay here while they are in Harrisburg but the options they have there are much closer to their playing field which is fine. Right now I do have communications with a few that will be in Philly and to be honest I just want to have them as guests in my humble home, share conversation, eat and perhaps drink... I do not expect any to give a damn about my plants, just want to learn about them ;)
