How hard can I prune a Japanese Cherry in the fall?

I would probably wait until spring. Cherries I’ve grown have been prone to rot, so you’ll want to make cuts when the tree is actively growing to give them a chance to callus over. Plus, you may get to enjoy some blooms first.
