For the first time ever I see contorted camellia being sold at a local nursery. They are selling them in 8 qt pot for $39. The only problem is that they come in clump of two or three trees just like all other camellias. How easy is it to sort out the roots?

Camellia are very tolerant of root reduction so you should be able to chop and pull to your heart's content without worrying the trees, even if you have to take of a lot of roots to get them apart.
I've transplanted a few of these with very few roots and they just get growing again as soon as warm weather comes.
I have only done this in late winter or spring down here so not sure how they'd respond to summer root pruning.
