i searched this site and google. i found tons on upright bonsai.

But if you use a juniper squamata for an upright and wire it up how long until it will stay upright on its own?

If you wire it and the wood hardens, it stays upright indefinitely... but any new growth may weep in a way that looks unnatural. You just need to wire any new branches until they stay in line with your design.

Yeh but how long does wire need to stay on the trunk for that to happen?

There's no set amount of time. It'll vary depending on the tree.
As mentioned above, the wood needs to harden in order to hold. You'll probably have to rewire, if the wire starts to bite before the trunk is holding.

It depends.

No, really! It depends on how thick the old wood was, how much you had to bend it, how much new growth you're getting...

You've not posted a picture of the before, the after, or anything!

Put the wire on, and leave it until it starts to cut in just a bit. Remove the wire. It it stays, you're good. If not, rewire. Try not to place the new wire in exactly the same plac the old wire was.

Leave it on until it starts to cut in. Remove wire. Does it stay put? You're done. Otherwise...

Get it?

Ok. I don't have an upright candidate right now (hence no picture).
I just wanted to know for when I do start one.
Thanks
