I acquired this small Huckleberry Oak (Q. vacciniifolia) 2-3 years ago. It's healthy and putting on new growth. It's still in the original pot in a standard nursery fir bark mix. The fir soil is starting to break down so it's time to get it into a new mix. I haven't worked with this species before and can find little information about bonsai culture for it. I can be safe and just slip pot it or be a little more aggressive with some amount of barerooting. A number of B Nutters advocate late season repot work on oaks. Anyone here work on these successfully?image.jpgimage.jpg

I wouldn't do it now, the best rule of fist is just before the leaves open / buds pop, and we are waaaay past that. But i don't know much about this species.
