Hey everyone. I know there are many in the dc area, so I thought I’d throw this out there. I’ll be headed to Annapolis for a family trip from Oct 8- Oct 12. I’m planning on spending the afternoon at the Museum on Friday the 10th. @Wood is more than likely joining me. If anyone else wants to meet at the museum that afternoon, I’d love to meet ya!

I’ll follow up on this thread as it gets closer!

Hmmm. I can probably make it, and it's been ages since I've been there in Autumn.

My wife and I were actually talking this AM about this very thing... ruined vacations by hard working tax payers who planned months or even longer in advance to take time out of their work life to travel and visit some of the national parks and museums that our federal taxes pay to run and maintain. Our country is amazing but our government sucks a lot sometimes.

On point statement once again Dave. It’s just so dam disappointing. I’m hopeful, but not expecting it to be resolved by next Friday. Was really looking forward to seeing a few trees in particular.

I visited the collection about eight years ago, and found it completely worth the time investment. I had opportunity to watch a group trimming the outdoor collection. I could kick myself for not asking if I could shoot footage, because I'm certain they would have been cool with it. Hope the shutdown resolves and it reopens in time for your visit.

Having been through this before I understand the disappointment and anger. Not only are the gates closed. Museum staff is forbidden to work on the trees. The employee staff (mostly the curator) can only water them. No volunteers, who do a ton of work in the large collection, are not allowed on museum grounds to help

Well at least allowed to water them. Most important to keep them alive

This is so effing dumb. The govt is dumb.

at least it’s fall and watering is slowing down. Typically it’s takes a few hours to water all the bonsai properly. There are well over a hundred if you count the trees that are off display.

In mid spring some have to be watered three or four times a day. Hopefully the govt will be back before the fall color is peak before the museums fall exhibition.

Well hell, that's awful timing. Still a slim chance they could re-open in time. I would have said I was up for a meet up also but have prior commitments.

If you like sushi check out Joss while you are in Annapolis.
