I Hate Squirrels

What did they do.....jump on it?

Honest that does not look like Squirrel damage... how thick is that branch?

I agree. Is it possible someone or something else did this?

I was thinking a cat running away, rabbit perhaps. Or a stray baseball or toy. Perhaps a dog chasing the Squirrel, Cat, Rabbit. I have BIG fox Squirrels and at best they "might" chew of a very small amount of bark...

unless they knocked the pot off i don't see how squirrels could do that...squirrels do suck though. they chewed up the trunk on my jade bonsai, big chunks taken out.

It looks like what happened the first time I gave a go at wiring a tree. :p

Yes, it was a squirrel, I keep my azaleas under a tall pine, which shades them from the afternoon sun. This time of year, the tree rats cut the green pine cones out and drop them to the ground to eat. One landed on the azalea.

So a pine cone fell on the branch and broke it?? Must be the mother of all pine cones...

OK, not trying to be funny, it was a cone, the green ones before they open in the fall. Very hard, heavy and dense.

Dropped about 40 feet. The branch was about 3/8 of an inch .

That sucks. I'd chop the tree down and burn the logs.

I have seen green cones like that fall and punch a hole right thru a camp trailor. We call them Widow Makers. These are just shy of two feet long, but we got big trees. One hit you in the head from 250 feet up and you are a goner.

We as kids use to throw these at each other !!!
Never broke one of our branches, but hurt like
hell when you got pegged with it ...
:)

Ouch. Shoot those squirrels, in the city pellet guns work well.

Its the tree rats. The hairy little tree vermin do the same to my trees and chids. Don't know why but since I don't have any really good material I try to ignore them as they haven't completely destroyed something( just nibble deciduous trees I have).
