Do you think they are dead or shall I give them some more time? What do you all think. It got down in the teens this last winter and they were in a greenhouse on a balcony.

Do the trees have buds on them? Are the buds in good shape or dried out?
Have you tried a scratch test with your fingernail on a branch? Is there green cambium under the bark?

Pictures of these trees would help determine that.
Specifically a close up of the buds.

I live further north then you and a full usda zone colder and I've known this past winter's maple DOAs for at least a month now. If the buds are fat and reddish hued, you may be ok, but if the buds are brown/black/dry and the bark has changed from the normal green or red to a blacker/browner/grey, +/- looking shrivelled, the're done.

Pics would help fwiw

The first two pics I think the tree is dead. The last three I think is still alive. The last three is from the same tree, and the first two is from the same tree too.

I also have two maples that leafed out and it got down to freezing and they lost their leaves. I can tell that these two are still alive but how long before they leaf out again or are they done for?

I’ve a couple like this. One leaved, one I’m still waiting. It’s almost like their roots got affected during the winter freezes.

cheers

I agree, the first tree is likely dead. Honestly, the last few pictures don't show much to be optomistic about either. I don't see any buds at all and the bark seems to be turning that sallow brown grey color that means cambial death... time will tell, I guess. Fwiw, I don't like the looks of your soil... appears very organic heavy and way too wet.

yea I can see where you scratch tested the bark on one of the branches. It looks yellow instead of the bright green it should be.
Afraid to say it but I think these are goners

As to JMs, if it hasn't leafed out yet, its probably not going to.
But hope springs eternal.

I bought some Dr Earths soil for maples and azaleas Thought it would help stop them from getting leaf scorch this summer. The rest are in this soil and dry out everyday so I am not worried
