I returned my Japanese Holly because it didn't make it through the winter (the roots were very dry and root bound when I got it in January).

With the funds I had, I went to two HD's looking for material. I found this firethorn pyranthea with some good branching, movement and the start of taper. 1 1/4 inch trunk and about a 3 inch nebari. Nice Shohin potential.

After some work to the top and bottom, I am letting it grow unchecked for the season. The top leader will go next season once the lower branches get stronger.

Well the gardenia I got home and all the leaves turned to a crisp will be on it’s way back soon. If I can find the damn receipt! Not sure if it was the dry air in my apartment or what.

I saw good positive growth, so today I cut back further to get more low, inside growth. Time to leave it alone again for awhile!
