My wife and I went for a journey here in the northland. I promised myself it was just a scouting trip for next spring. But these little guys were calling for me. The first two have some sweet structure. The third is just a mass of foliage. It might end up an accent plant or something.

Finally the littlest and probably the least also. This tiny spruce is less than three inches, but look at all the buds. It's pretty old for being so tiny. I need a tiny pot. Any ideas for a good mame pot?

Very nice! I love spruce, big - small - they look good at any size!

I would check out Chuck Iker's work, he has some great mame pots.

Lets see a side shot when you have a chance!

Pretty sure these are not spruce. Juniper/cypress/cedar, not sure, but spruce is doubtful. Nice material, none the less.

The first post is all cedar, the second post is a spruce.

Spruce

When he says cedar he means thuja. Last one is spruce, who knows maybe it is genetically dwarf. Might be worth growing out - see if it stays small and congested.

Thuja Occidentallis...aka Eastern White Cedar...aka Arborvitae. Most things growing in this spot are dwarfed by the harsh environment. This is where I've gathered some really old stuff.

I have to say this is the smallest oversized training pot I have ever used. The tree is 2.5 inches tall with 32 buds on it. I generally don't get too excited about a tree like this, but I just can't fathom a 2.5 inch tree that is probably 6-8 years old. I'll let it recover next summer in this pot, but I need a tiny pot for the future.

I can't wait to see this thing bud back!!
