ID help please?

I was given a couple of these recently and have no idea of their ID. Juniper of some sort? Very small foliage and I have one in silvery variegation and one gold. Can anyone help please. Don’t want to start any work until I know what I’m dealing with.

One blurry photo is not much to work with. Maybe add some more photos showing the whole plant, trunk and bark and a good clear shot of the foliage.

Looks like there's a lot of dead/dying tips on that one. I would be trying to find out why it is not looking healthy before anything else.

It does look like a juniper of sorts. Hard to tell for sure. Some nice bright pics to show it better will help for sure.
Looks like some root damage being reflected in all the dieing tips. Either from recent repot or maybe pot bound, or some serious over watering. What's the soil components?

How soft or sharp is the pointy parts? Junipers are distinctly painfully sharp, whereas so some Cryptomeria are softer even though as sharp. Break off an end and smell it. Junipers have a distinct odor you can compare to known Junipers. We need a New Zealander to chime in here, too.

This is one of the trees. Hopefully the pics are a bit clearer. The smell of the foliage is very strong almost like a pine. None of my junipers has a resin smell that strong. Could it be a cypress of some sort. They were repotted when I got them as they were in a garden soil and not looking too happy. This one is in a moler/ pumice mix and the other is in an Akadama/pumice. I was given them as possible Shohin material but until I know what they are I am unsure how I should be compacting the foliage.

Cryptomeria is indeed a possibility. Lots of cultivars including some dwarf ones but I have not seen any with such small needles. Not sure why @Forsoothe! has invoked the Kiwis?

Its a hard one, maybe some Juniper maybe a dwarf cultivar with juvenile foliage of Chamaecyparis, Cryptomeria, Thuja or something

New pictures look like Chamaecyparis. Is the feel of the foliage soft or pokey to the touch? Juniper is unpleasant/painful, Chamae nice and soft, but not strong scented.

The original photos seemed to have fat segments and my old brain remembers some odd plants from that island in the middle of nowhere with a lot of funny plants. We are short one Leo. Are the Perch running?
