I can't imagine why they wouldn't perform as well as any other legume. They are extremely cold tolerant (at least -40F/C) and very very drought tolerant. I've seen them with quite small leaves when grown under the most extreme conditions. The fact that they are more shrubby than tree-like should offer plenty of branches to work with. The seed pods explode when ripe and scatter seed over a long range. These easily germinate and grow quickly.....so perhaps an additional approach for you.
