Hey - can you help me identify this tree? I love them and they are everywhere around here (Papudo, a coastal town near Valparaíso, Chile).

Is a Cupressus species for sure, not that sure if its sempervirens though, it could be Cupressus macrocarpa

Well, I found this amazing article about identifying cypresses and I’m almost sure it’s a sempervirens. Went for a quick stroll and came back with a big bag full of seed cones, some already dropping seeds. I’ll take a closer look tomorrow. Wouldn’t be nice having a couple of hundreds cypress bonsai in 20 years or so? :)

I’ve been examining the pods, and it looks like they hold about 50 seeds each. Here’s a photo for reference:image.jpg

And here’s a look on hoy many seeds are in about a dozen pods, many of which were already empty:image.jpg
So much fun.
