I am wondering if anyone around or in Chicago, has any spare tools they would be willing to donate to a newbie or willing to sell reasonable?

You don’t need nice tools to start. I started with $3 clippers from Walmart. Learning to grow healthy bonsai and the skills/knowledge involved is a better investment to start out with. If you have to weigh what is worth more on a tight budget. Once you see you can grow healthy trees after several years with the repotting, pruning, wiring, etc. Then it makes sense to buy tools to better refine the work you do on tree’s. You’ll know what tools you need as well by then. You just need some simple tools to start. And people here will most likely help you with questions.
