I've search the forum and couldn't find anything relating to Ikea, but most of today I've been having issues with the search function not turning up any results, so forgive me if this is a previous topic.

I was in Ikea today and found these:

Pumice: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/...xer-growing-media-pumice-stones-art-00317650/

Clay balls: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/...odla-growing-media-clay-pebbles-art-60287103/

Has any used / know of any who has used these?

Those clay balls look like round akadama. I'd think they would need space filler.

The roubd things are a hydroponic soil, forget what they call them! Not Akadama, and the more regular shape, large particle aize jave always turned me off...

Pumice could be ok if it is the right particle size but still very expensive at GBP1/L. Maybe I am used at the extremely low price we buy it here in Greece (EUR 8 per 20L bag of 2-4mm size). I think you can find cheaper prices in UK bonsai shops. These will be already screened so you won't waste material.

Get yourself to the many bonsai boot fairs scattered around the UK. There's one near me in Doncaster in the next month or so.

The Leca exist at 4 mm [ the hydroponic balls ] very usable from 8 mm.
Just add compost.
Do you need to see the proof ?
[ the group must be tired of me showing these images :D:eek::rolleyes:]

Image of tree growing well in the 8 mm round fired clay balls ?

And no they do not float when watered :)
Good Day

Yeah @Cattwooduk it is. I guess I'll see you there!
Just been told by the boss I can't go this evening  she's back to work after maternity leave now and the club meeting time is when we do the baby's bedtime routine, feeding, bathing and getting him to sleep etc which is still a team effort at the moment until he's a bit older... hopefully ill be able to make the next one!
