Hi all,

I was wandering through a local nursery and spotted this little fella looking all out of place on its own and I couldn't resist! (Apologies for the slightly out of focus photos)

It struck me as being different to the usual nursery stock of ilex around here. The single trunk is a rarity alone.
What do you think? Does it have much potential? I'm currently thinking a nice slanted style as that trunk line is prominent. It will need some width adding to the base however.

I have a few ilex around the garden that are growing into large trees (Niwaki style), but his is the first I've bought purposefully for bonsai!

Followed this post while looking for other information. I've been "CodeMonkey" on other forums, but mostly back in the 1990's lol. Cheers, and I hope your little Crenata is doing well

Looks interesting enough. I would put it in the ground to grow out a couple of years to increase the diameter of the trunk. If you do plant it in the ground, plant it on an angle. In a few years options better than "slant" or "windswept" will become more obvious.

I know nothing about this cultivar in particular.

Hey both,
Missed these replies. my Crenata is in the ground doing its thing. I'll leave it there until it thickens up.
It grows incredibly quick!

Ha! it's quite a common nickname for us lowly software devs.
