Please pleas please share where you found it :)
Hey @Stormwater
It's Sun's Garden & Landscaping
1025 Ashton Rd Ashton Md.

They have maybe 2 or 3 more but at least 2 of them are different looking, with multiple trunks from the soil line.

There is other larger, unkempt material there however....and they're not out of business, I think it's more of a landscape business than a garden center....but the guy in charge is friendly.

I decided on the parts of the tree that I want to use in the future.
So I wired up 3 branches that I don't plan on using in the future....bent them up pretty good.
This is only to see how it reacts to the work this time of year....I'm doing similar things with a couple of my trees, because I always get mixed opinions on autumn work....best to find out what works for me, myself.
I will say, the branches are nice and flexy right now. I also waited to water beforehand.
Also went ahead and hit the dead wood with lime sulfur, it will be carved and cleaned up a lot in the future.

Randomly wired branches in December all survived no prob....good to know!

Removed a couple parts of the new one and one branch from the other. Also brought a branch down low on each of them, for future styling use.

Both seem to be growing well this year. Feeding heavily....more sun than befo
You'll notice some of the pale foliage, I think its because all of that was shaded before I moved the branch, tips are looking good.

Even though I had good success fully bare rooting the first one, I'm going to attempt to Half Bare Root the new one, just to play it safer.

A couple quick pics.

This second tree has such a weird line in the trunk....should make for a good bonsai some day.
I'm thinking, going slowly, I'll HBR this year, then maybe HBR the second half in 2020, then begin making more serious decisions and styling in 2021.
Might even want to wait till 2021 to do the second half of the HBR.
@Adair M I know you tow the HBR line, do you think its safe to do each half one year apart from each other?
Or, it depends on the tree's response, I suppose.

I got away with 4 bare rootings in spring with junipers. I think it depends a whole lot on what you find in the soil.
Nice progression! Thanks for updating it.

I prefer to work junipers when they are actively growing...
On this one, I waited until the tips where bright green and growing...
+1 me too. Not just starting to push with more Winter in the balance.
I swear I lost a whole year doing one in March last year and had thinned the year prior, big set back.

Nice progression, so is this going to be the dedicated thread?
Really like the nebari better on the 2nd one you got here, nice find.

Steve at Plant City bonsai told me he got a dozen blue spruce shipped from Denver
for his class, all in the $300 range each. He was there when they bare rooted them all
and Saran wrapped the roots tightly prior to their flight back to the East “coast”.
Had a team ready and repotted them all in 2 hrs, all still living today.
So, with your experience, and experience with this current like cultivar, it is probably
safe to follow in the same footsteps of its 1st brother.

I have 2 pots like this one. Prior to planting, I sanded the outside with 80 and 100 grit paper
then sprayed a matte brown on. Couldn’t get the shine knocked down really.
Sure it peels in time here and there but not bad really. Easy touch up. You could try it without
the sand paper, there’s probably an etching acid for glass that would be better.

The "Thinned & Styled" thread will be the progression on the first one.

The second one I did the HBR job on this year, and I'm happy with the results so far, didn't bat an eyelash.

Interesting idea on the pot stuff too, something to consider .....
