@Kendo, what happened with the olive tree you wanted to bring home from Italy?

Please don't take offense at the teasing about "hai". I suspect that English is not your first language; I admire someone who can speak more than one language.

I did not post “HAI” with the intentions of a negative teasing, it was all in fun. I would excpect this if I were to try and post to a Japanese speaking site. But I’m the type that smiles all the time as well. Just having fun, and hope I did not offend you @Kendo because I was not trying to. I enjoy this site because of the diversity of people and places.
Hai Hai @Kendo!!! :):D

Eh, I didn't mean to come across all " holier than thou " -- I realize now it was just good natured kidding...sorry.

Pictures, @Kendo! We need pictures!

Good luck. I wouldn't be surprised it you could get a visit from CBP upon your plant's arrival at your house and face possible confiscation of the tree. Along with the permit and bare rooting, a two year quarantine is probably necessary for the tree.

Can't see why you're importing it. there are world class olives out in So. Cal. ready for the buying (and they can't be anywhere near as expensive as this tree is going to be...)

OK, I don't know. you apparently don't know much more than me, since you're asking here about experiences. Relying on someone outside the U.S. for importation advice into this country (aka in Italy) may not be a great thing to do.

Again, Good luck.

Importing an Olive from the land of Xylella?

That's responsible.
I'd been wondering about the restrictions on what amounts to a crop plant into California which has a budding olive oil industry...
FWIW--xylella is having effects on olive trees into the U.K.
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/tightened-measures-to-protect-the-country-from-xylella

Don't know if the USDA is on this, but I'd bet they're watching...

I couldn't say for the US, I did a brief google but nothing obvious.
This is also a big thing in my part of Spain. It's a huge concern and so far the only containment appears to be scorched Earth within a certain radius. I don't think the restriction in the EU are good enough as I can still move plants cross border freely enough and even host species of which there are many.

I don't see it getting past customs. How often have we heard of this being done from anywhere outside the US?
