I got this one last summer....it was sort of a throw away in my mind (not that I would actually throw away a tree for no reason, but I was just itching to mess with something that day) and I didn't have any plan in mind....
Just did a partial root prune and put it in an oversized white pot to chill for the rest of last year.
The variety is called "soft touch".

This year, I decided that I wanted to get all of the nursery soil out of the roots, and get a look at the base.
Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of the roots or the trunk base during the last repot, but this little guy has an amazing basal flare, for such a tiny stick.
It's in a plastic training pot now and I cut back the branches hard.
I think this tree will make a nice little bonsai someday.

especially since this plant can re-bud all over.

Yeah, I was thinking it might end up too tall for Mame....but we'll see.... maybe shohin...
I like the branches too much to chop lower, and start over.
