Found this wrapped up in a River birch leaf. Peeled open two leaves stuck together and my gardener mode kicked in when I saw a worm/caterpillar and squished it on instinct. I need to be more patient but any idea of what this used to be? I'm guessing sawfly but not sure.

Usually I can decipher half of your advice/riddles but I'm lost on this one. :)

I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone.

Just remember they're all stupid easy that seem hard.
It's almost an excersize to stop thinking and remember what you already know!

The sawfly larva I deal with on birch up here are leaf miners not a caterpillars rolling up in leaves.

Sawfly July. My birch are in danger. I see forced partial defoliations in my near future.
