I was just wondering if anyone has a reference sheet for the International Bonsai magazine for what subjects are covered and in what issue?

There was a Bonsai Indices that someone put out about 10 years ago in pdf format that I have. It included: International Bonsai, Bonsai Today, BCI Magazine, ABS,Tropical Bonsai, etc. VERY useful for research and I still use it extensively for teaching and writing articles. Unfortunately it was never updated beyond the dates that it covered. Saying that, you could probably contact Bill regarding this. He use to put an annual list of topics in the last issue of each year if my memory serves me.

Yes. The Index to the year's articles is in Issue #4 every year.

If you go to http://flexlists.com/ and choose Public Lists, the search for "Bonsai Articles" you will find an as-yet-incomplete database of articles in all of the 250-300 bonsai magazines I have, including the last 5-6 years of international Bonsai and sporadic earlier issues.

It is a somewhat klunky database program, but you should be able to click on the magazine field and get all the international Bonsai gathered together. That will help you decide which back issues to order from Bill.

@jkl thats really good data... however the ui isn't much useful (i know you didn't create it) .....


would anyone actually care if I made this , and one for Bonsai Focus if ne one has one, available as a nice searchable web tool??? if no one cares I might not bother but it would open the door for things like phone apps etc...

ne ways say something if you care... I will assume silence is indifference

I would use it with gratitude. And if you haven't seen my BT index, grab it off the resources section of my website, it's in excel and fairly detailed...might skip you ahead a few steps...

The Bonsai Focus would be great, I use the indicies as a tool for our club members to pull from our library rather than carting the heavy boxes to meetings, but right now only have the BT index, which is well done.

Guess I'll bump this topic instead of a new thread.

Does anyone still have an up-to-date reference for IB magazine? I'm thinking of ordering some back issues but the order form (which doesn't seem to have been updated since 2011) says issues from late 91 are available but only lists the topics from late 03 to 10 which leaves me unsure what issues would even still be available. The great database jkl made seems to stop at 2010 as well and is spotty pre 2001 on issue listings for IB at least.

Because of my health, I'm behind in a LOT of things and it's doubtful I'll update that. Sorry.

However on the next to last page of every issue I'natnl Bonsai there is a listing of all issues that are available up to the current year.
