Now...I could tell an Irish Whiskey from a Bourbon quite easily... But Irish Moss??

I hear tell it's no bueno...

Grows up trunks fast...???
Hard to get rid of...???

Thoughts?

Is this Irish Moss, enveloping my lil Kbox??

Not Irish moss. Irish moss looks kind of like little spider plants.

That looks more like a kind of sphagnum moss. I'm not a moss expert though. As long as it's not damaging the bark it shouldn't harm anything I wouldn't worry too much.

Yeah it does resemble sphagnum...
It came off the bark very easily with tweezers.

Sphagnum shouldn't stick to bark or anything else for that matter. It should form pads with upward growth, toppling sideways when shoots get too long.
This growth looks feathered, more like Hylocomium, Rhytidiadelphus or Pleurozium. But those are European species, I don't know whatever lives in the US.

Mosses can keep lichen from growing, but they do encourage algae in some cases.

I remember when I was starting out I thought it looked so pretty. It really does look like a little lawn. Then I had to remove it.
