I posted last week about concerns over the color of my bonsai. I had lots of views, but no replies. Today, I noticed that lots of the branches are turning a silver/white color. Please see below.

Hi,

To begin, where in the world do you live? Where do you keep this tree? The pictures are a bit small, so I can't really tell what's going on in terms of dying, could you post some bigger pictures??

I live in north eastern US (Pennsylvania). I keep this tree outside. It gets 6 hours of sun per day, and watered either every day or every other day. image.jpg

Better pic

Sorry. I just noticed that the original pic was blurry.

It looks fine from what I can see in the photos.

Photographing foliage against grass is not effective for bonsai, much less, for determining a problem. Use a plain, neutral background, and position yourself so the edge of the pot is at "lens level" and the bonsai fills the frame, but isn't cropped out of the photo on any side:

Comparison

I will work on getting another pic. I illustrated the original. Notice the difference?

The lighter part is starting to lignify (become woody) and will be a branch before the green shoots lignify.

I think it is OK, just making the transition from green growing surface to lignified stage, turning to wood.

Please get a second (or third) tree so you don't worry this one (or yourself) to death.

Your tree is very small but healthy.
