So… I’m thinking about buying a couple of large Ume that’s been growing in the ground for a long time. They are all flowering right now. I’m thinking about going tomorrow to dig them up and chop for bonsai. Is this a good time to do that since they are all flowering ? Thanks in advance.

I do have a couple small Ume. I do prune the root and repot them after flowering. They seem to do fine. I think it may depends on other factors such as the weather in your area or soil you use.

Now's the time, might even be a bit late. Have a friend who just dug a very large (9 inch diameter) ume out of his backyard last week.

I have been searching for Ume bonsai materials for years, but none of the nurseries near me have them. Great find 👍
