I’ve only seen mango trees in pictures online, and this looks very very similar to them. But this is in Topsail, NC- where I imagine it consistently gets too cold for? So can anyone positively ID it as a mango? Fruit are fairly small, either unripe or it’s some sort of dwarf variety.

Not mango, probably Chinese Loquat.

A mango as a bonsai, needs 3 feet and you have to use
the ones with the fruit growing like grapes.
One type is called - Table Top

These are mangoes around 2 inches in size. Rare.
Old time.
Good Day

Yep that looks like it may be it, thanks again Anthony. Quite unusual that a restaurant would plant a fruit tree like that out front, pretty cool.

I bet I’d have a hard time finding the type of mango tree you mentioned, it’s hard to find any mango here at all. I’m going to a tropical plant nursery today, hopefully I can find one or something else interesting

It is definitely a Loquat and not a mango. Mango cannot be grown in the ground outdoor in NC. There is no known mango cultivar that can can survive winter in zone 7 or 8. I struggle to grow it even in zone 9.

I thought Loquat fruit grew in clusters like grapes though?? If the leaves were a bit wider it could even be a persimmon. It has good winter shelter with that white wall right behind it reflecting the suns rays.

these must be the leftovers of the early summer fruits.
