I soak my seeds in 50/50 H2O / H2O2 mix and the stratifying media as well.
I used to have seeds mildew or fungus, but no more.
It was actually all the leaves on the developing seedlings at the 2-4 leaf stage………..so spray with an hydrogen pyroxide dilution?

DECIDED TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS

I think the leaves or just have way too long of petioles….. many are over 4 inches and 3 to 4 inch ones even in the sun so this is only for very large bonsai and I just don’t feel like growing them out I think I’d rather toy around with some Trident Maple variable seedlings that I’m collecting locally.
It will be fun making selections from all the seeds the seed is fresh!!!
They are actually germinating now and if I did Harvest too early ,a couple weeks ago, I’ll Harvest another batch in October when the wings start to turn yellow and brown.

i’m collecting the Trident Seeds from a tree with full southern exposure….I mean like morning to sundown in an industrial Park!!!

it’s either a regular acer buergerianum or the variety buergerianum formosanum from Taiwan I’m just not sure

That is what I do if I see mold or mildew. I also do it prophylactically the seedlings and cuttings. I have 6 flats of azalea cutting and while a few have died, there is no mold or mildew apparent despite them being covered.

@cmeg1 , There’s a big black maple down the street from me that’s loaded with seed. The leaves are small and the seeds are plump with dried wings right now. If you would like to experiment with them I’d be more than happy to send you some seed.420D81A6-76B8-4868-92A7-A08A770F3642.jpegB9CABEDA-593D-4AB8-9773-ACD793FD0285.jpeg0995BE37-BB14-4969-B92F-43ED8252AC14.jpegD54D9A54-CFC4-4D90-9FAB-0F4AFE6C7175.jpeg

I was actually confused to whether Chinese Trident maple or regular Buergerianum, but it seems this is regular Trident Maple which I’m actually enthused about …….according to these pictures. I will update us on my other thread. The second &third picture is the trees I’m harvesting from it has no resemblance of Taiwan Trident Maple!!
Have no idea why I could not find this the first day I researched it …..quite odd really.
And I’m glad this is standard Trident actually ,quite rare in my area to see growing ….are very local and suffer the cold winters I have and are in full blazing sun in the hundred degree weather we get sometimes…… they are full-grown trees very big with 2 foot trunks on them!!!

Glad you are incorporating more maples into your experiments next year. Maple genetic variety is so broad, always interesting to see what you will get.
